💜 Nonviolence is a journey. I don’t dismiss my anger - it’s OK to feel angry, for anger is an emotion of survival - but I’m looking at how to channel it for greater purposes.

💜 We’re wired to fight, but we’re also wired to love and be compassionate. It’s a choice, and it starts at an individual level. It starts with the words, thoughts, and actions we choose to create our reality.

🌎 The world is in chaos - wars, racism, climate change and so on - because it reflects the state of our inner world. We believe we’re separate from one another, when in fact we’re all made of the same cosmic matter. An explosion of creation that started billions of years ago and evolved into consciousness. We can elevate it if we choose to do so.

🌎 Cold winds break the heavy night clouds revea

🌎 Cold winds break the heavy night clouds revealing a wickedly beautiful moon. My Uber driver is taking me to a party and my spirits are high. Intuitively, I recognize a place I’ve never seen.

🌎 “ Is this the Ebenizer Baptism Church complex where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached?” I asked. “Yes, m’am.” My high vibe shifts to something else in milliseconds. The unexpected sighting ignited a million feelings and warm tears stream down my face.

🌎 “Do you have a Kleenex?,” I ask, partially laughing, a bit embarrassed, and absolutely in reverence while trying to process what’s happening to me. I’m worried my make-up is ruined before I reach my final destination. “You’re so raw,” my driver tells me lovingly, acknowledging my unfiltered emotions. “You got soul,” he continues. I love how that lands on my chest, like my cat’s pur.

🌎 I’ve had a similar reaction when I accidentally stumbled upon the Colosseum in Rome many years ago. I believe some places that have significantly shaped the fate of humanity are vortexes of an energy so potent that some of us can only process that power through unpasteurized emotions. And though I grew up hearing that I should prioritize mind over heart, I know better now that our emotions are thermometers to what moves us, what triggers us, what still needs to heal, what we care deeply about.

🌎 I returned to the site on this rainy autumn day, visiting the home and streets where Dr. King was born and raised. Streets that shaped a brilliant man and now host his grave. He lays next to his also extraordinary wife, Coretta Scott King, that carried on his legacy. Hours later, I’m still shaken by the strength of Dr. King’s message of equal rights and nonviolence. It’s as relevant as ever. ✊🏿👩🏻🧕🕎👩🏻‍🍼🌈🙏🏼💜

No Black Friday for us. We traded it for a White Friday hike with the elements: 16 F (-9 C), 9,000 ft of altitude (2,700 m), soft snow flurries caressing our faces, mule deer and wild turkeys opening up the wilderness trail. That place I revere, that place where my wild heart feels at home.
